Speaking about designing the political and administrative headquarters in Baia Mare, Mircea Alifanti underlined that: ’’I tried to elicit the premises of a certain expressiveness from the functional and the constructive, to make them reveal various interesting and even unexpected moods and associations that I would order, simplify, and strengthen by means of known compositional procedures. Of these, I have attempted to use as work patterns only those which contained contrast, conflict, life, considering that they will also suffuse the construction – once finished – with a more appropriate, bolder coherence.”
 
As he believed the old folk architecture in Maramureș to be particularly expressive, Mircea Alifanti said that: ’’This architecture is not only beautiful, appropriate to function and landscape; it is both vigorous and daring. It bows to the landscape, but does so deliberately, in a varied and intelligent way, at times overlapping with the surroundings, using them as an integrating component or challenging them.”
